Investigating Alleged Cooking Oil Cartel, KPPU Summons Sinar Mas, Conglomerate Eka Tjipta, And Indofood Owned By Conglomerate Anthony Salim
JAKARTA - The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) has summoned a number of cooking oil producing companies to investigate the alleged cooking oil cartel. The companies that were called were Sinar Mas, Musim Mas, Wilmar and Indofood.
The summons regarding the cooking oil cartel will be carried out starting today, Tuesday, May 31 to June 9, 2022.
KPPU's Director of Investigation Gopprera Panggabean said that he would continue to conduct investigations and summons. Because, there are still many companies that have not fulfilled the summons.
"Some manufacturers do not submit reports or information according to the format we submit to facilitate analysis. So we called again," he said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, May 31.
Furthermore, Gopprera explained that KPPU is also waiting for reproduction data and price determination from companies that are already present. This data, he said, was needed to strengthen the evidence in proving the allegation of the cooking oil cartel.
"Those present present information. Some can be used, many are not. Allegedly, no one wants to admit this cartel. So we still need data related to each business actor," he said.
Gopprera explained that the investigation into the alleged cooking oil cartel was carried out within 60 working days from March 30, 2022. He said, KPPU had a deadline of July 5. If the report on the results of the investigation has been concluded and obtained at least 2 pieces of evidence, it will go to the filing stage to be assessed whether it is feasible to be reported at the commission meeting.
However, Gopprera continued, if there is still the required data, then the investigation process can be extended. He said, his party will coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police to bring parties deemed uncooperative to fulfill the KPPU's summons for examination.
