Junior Persecution To Death, 5 Semarang PIP Cadets Sentenced To 6 To 7 Years In Prison
SEMARANG - The Semarang District Court (PN) sentenced five cadets of the Semarang Maritime Science Polytechnic (PIP) to 6 to 7 years in prison, the defendant was not convicted of assault that killed his junior, Zidan Muhammad Faza.
The sentence handed down by Chief Justice Arkanu was lighter than the prosecutor's demand for 9 years in prison.
The five defendants namely Caecar Richardo Bintang Samudra Tampubolon, Aris Riyanto, Andre Arsprilla Arief, and Albert Jonathan Ompusungu were sentenced to 7 years in prison, while the defendant Budi Dharmawan was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
In his decision, the judge stated that the defendant was proven to have violated the third Article 170 paragraph 2 and Article 170 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. In an incriminating consideration, the judge considered that the defendant's actions were troubling the public.
"The defendant's actions have resulted in the victim's witness dying and getting sick," he said in a hybrid trial held at the Semarang District Court, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 31.
Meanwhile, for the defendant Budi Dharmawan, the judge assessed that the defendant did not hit the victim too hard.
The incident of abuse carried out by the defendants against their juniors occurred on September 6, 2021 at Mes Indoraya Semarang.
In this incident, the abuse carried out by the five defendants caused the death of cadet Zidan Muhammad Faza resulting in 14 other junior cadets experiencing pain in the abdomen due to punches and or kicks.
Based on this decision, the defendant Caecar Richardo Bintang Samudra Tampubolon through his sentencing advisor immediately declared an appeal.
Meanwhile, the other four defendants, also through their legal advisors, are still expressing their thoughts.
