Fishermen To Barges, Beware Of 2.5 Meter Waves In NTT Waters
JAKARTA - The Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports that a 2.5 meter high sea wave has the potential to hit five water points in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"The potential for waves up to 2.5 meters high needs to be watched out for because it poses a high risk to fishing boat servicemen and barges," said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi in Kupang, Monday 30 May.
He said this was related to the early warning of high waves in NTT which took effect May 30-31 2022.
The five points of marine waters are the western part of the Sumba Strait, the Savu Sea, the southern Indian Ocean of Sumba Sabu.
In addition, the waters south of Kupang-Rote and the Indian Ocean south of Kupang-Rote.
Syaeful appealed to fishermen or ship operators who are or are about to cross the waters to increase their vigilance.
He further explained that meanwhile, the condition of the wind pattern in the northern part of Indonesia was dominantly moving from southwest to west with wind speeds ranging from 4-20 knots.
Meanwhile, in the southern part of Indonesia, the dominant movement is from West-Northwest with wind speeds ranging from 8-10 knots.
The highest wind speeds were observed in the waters north of Sabang, the Natuna Sea, the Indian Ocean south of Java, the Halmahera Sea, and the northern waters of West Papua.
Syaeful was quoted from Antara as urging fishermen and ship operators to continue to update information on weather forecasts in NTT waters to prepare a safe and smooth sailing plan.
