Asking Residents Not To Believe In Paranormal Predictions, MUI West Java: In A Religious View Shamanism Is Not Allowed

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of West Java Province asked residents not to believe paranormal predictions regarding the fate of the eldest son of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz, who was swept away by the current of the Aare River in Bern, Switzerland.

"Of course we also hear a lot of inappropriate comments. Don't listen to the paranormal statement. Paranormal from a religious point of view is shamanism. Regarding listening to fortune-telling, a fatwa has been issued, it is forbidden," said West Java Provincial MUI Chair Rahmat Syafei when contacted by telephone. from Bandung City, Sunday.

"Shamans are given space to make statements, even though from a religious point of view shamanism is not allowed," he said.

Rahmat said that residents should show empathy and not do things that can actually add to the problems of people who are experiencing disasters.

"Don't confuse the situation by commenting on the opinion of the paranormal, as if to justify it," he said.

Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil's younger brother, Elpi Nazmuzaman, doesn't want to bother with paranormal statements about his nephew.

"We don't want to enter into things where we don't know the Shari'a. We only follow the guidelines according to our beliefs, namely the creed and teachings of Islam," said Elpi.

"Indeed, this is an expression of affection from various parties. We are grateful. This person's form of affection and sympathy is different, according to his experience, knowledge, and belief," he added.
