Despite Wrong Lyrics When Chanting 'Arjuna', Ahmad Dhani's Presence At BNI Java Jazz Amazes The Audience
JAKARTA - Musician Ahmad Dhani enlivened the stage of the 2022 BNI Java Jazz Festival with a number of songs from Dewa 19, although there were a few wrong lyrics, on Saturday, May 28, close to midnight at Hall D2 JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
A lyric error occurred when Dhani sang the lyrics in the song 'Arjuna'. The lyrics that should be 'O women, love me' were sung by Dhani to be 'O women, who are looking for love.
"If there are a few mistakes, I'm sorry, okay? Because yesterday in Surabaya was Dewa 19's first tour. Yesterday we played the wrong one, 30 songs. Yesterday, yesterday night," said Dhani after finishing the song 'Already', reported by Antara, Sunday, May 29.
“Today (Saturday) memorize new songs. Tomorrow (Sunday) I will go to Malaysia to sing nasyid. So I've been having a bit of a headache these past few nights. So, if there are a few mistakes, please understand, yes," continued Dhani, which was greeted with applause from the audience.
Dhani was accompanied by Ron King Big Band's composition during his performance on stage. Rong King himself has been a performer in Java Jazz several times. Last Friday, the band he formed, Ron King Horn Section, accompanied Adikara Fardy. Then on Sunday, Ron King Big Band will also perform in Hall C1.
Dhani said that when he first met Ron King Big Band, they had only practiced together in person for the first time. "They are from America, I am from Surabaya," he said.
He explained to the audience that Ron King Big Band was used to reading chords without hearing the original song. When a singer makes a slight mistake, the band will adjust right away.
"If I'm wrong (again), disperse all of this. They (Ron King Big Band) just read what is in their sheet music, they already understand the song. Yeah, right, Ron, huh?" said Dhani who was again greeted by applause from the audience.
Besides "Arjuna" and "Already", that night Dhani performed other Dewa 19 songs such as "Kasidah Cinta", "I Love You and Him", and "Half Nafas". There is also a song from the Triads – a band formed by Dhani – entitled “Madu Tiga”. Dhani also performed songs that were not his own, one of which was “I Get a Kick Out of You” by Frank Sinatra.
