Police Identify Brains Driving Students Involved In A Demo Against Job Creation
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has identified a number of parties suspected of being the driving force of students to be involved in violent demonstrations against the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law on October 8 and 13, 2020.
"We conveyed that we have identified several students from vocational high schools, junior high schools and even elementary schools," said the Head of Metro Jaya Police, Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters, Monday, October 19.
Inspector General Nana did not mention how many students motivated the demonstration which ended in chaos. Nana only said there were several and that his party was still investigating the involvement of these individuals.
"There are several and we are continuing to investigate," said Nana, quoted by Antara .
Regarding the chaos, Polda Metro Jaya named 131 suspects in the rioting on October 8, 2020 and October 13, 2020, of the 131 people, 69 have been detained.
Polda Metro Jaya together with the Polres in their jurisdiction secured 1,192 people during a riotous demonstration against the Omnibus Law on October 8, 2020.
Then on the October 13, 2020 demonstration which returned to chaos, the police again secured 1,377 people.
After conducting an examination and data collection, it was found that almost 80 percent of the rioters arrested by the police were underage students.
The police then sent the young men and students home on condition that their parents had to pick them up and asked to make a statement not to repeat their actions again.
