An M 5.8 Earthquake Occurred On Pagai Island Selatan, West Sumatra

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred on South Pagai Island, Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra. The earthquake had no potential for a tsunami.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the earthquake occurred at 14:47 WIB, Monday, October 19. The location is 3.31 LS-100.40 East Longitude, 32 km southeast of South Pagai Island.

The depth of the earthquake was 14 kilometers. "There is no potential for a tsunami," wrote the Twitter account @infoBMKG .

Meanwhile, the Head of BMKG's Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Division, Daryono, on the @DaryonoBMKG Instagram account, released earthquake data in South Pagai with a magnitude of 5.6. The depth of the earthquake was 13 km.
