Manual Without Heavy Equipment, Construction Of Emergency Sea Wall At Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang Is In Acceleration

SEMARANG - Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar said the construction of an emergency sea wall in the Tanjung Emas Port area of Semarang was accelerated in an effort to overcome flooding.

"The work is done manually without heavy equipment," he said in Semarang as reported by Antara, Wednesday, May 25.

The addition of the broken embankment was mainly carried out on the part with the most severe damage. "There are two entry points for sea water, but the priority is 20 meters wide," he said.

He hoped that the construction of the emergency embankment could be completed soon to prevent more seawater from entering the area around the port.

The tidal flood caused puddles as high as more than two meters in the coastal area of Semarang City, Central Java, last Monday. The tidal flood mainly hit the area around Tanjung Emas Port.

The flood affected thousands of factory workers in the Tanjung Emas Port industrial area and caused motorcycles, cars, and thousands of sewing machines and production machines in a number of factories to be submerged.

Containers at the Tanjung Emas Port were also affected by tidal flooding, which was exacerbated by the collapse of the sea wall in the port area.

Irwan said that according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency's forecast, the peak of the tidal flood occurred on Monday and Tuesday, yesterday.
