PLN Strengthens Electricity Reliability In Sei Mangkei SEZ To Welcome New Investors

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has prepared a substation to supply electricity needs in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Simalungan Regency, North Sumatra.

General Manager of PLN UIW North Sumatra, Pandapotan Manurung hopes that with the Sei Mangkei substation, the electricity needs of investors in the Sei Mangkei SEZ can be met.

"PLN is ready to serve all electricity needs for entrepreneurs and investors who want to invest in North Sumatra, so they can create jobs and improve the economy of the people in the area," Pandapotan said in an official statement, Wednesday, May 25.

Pandapotan explained, the presence of the Sei Mangkei substation will transform the electrical voltage by lowering the high voltage to medium voltage.

"Furthermore, it will be distributed to the SEZ Sei Mangkei covering an area of 167.8 hectares (Ha)," he explained.

The main electricity supply for the SEZ Sei Mangkei, continued Pandapotan, comes from PLN and several independent power producers (IPP) using new and renewable energy (EBT) with a total power of 25.2 megawatts.

Currently, the need for electricity use in the SEI Mangkei has been used by nine well-known companies with a power of 7.28 megawatts.

"It is estimated that the electricity load in this area will increase by 16 megawatts until 2025, bringing the total power in the area to 23.28 megawatts," he said.

The Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone was established through Government Regulation No. 29 of 2012 on 27 February 2012 and was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 27 January 2015.

The presence of SEI Mangkei SEZ is expected to encourage increased investment in the country.
