Police Investigate Main Jaya Bus Which Collised Truck On Pati Ring Road
PATI - Satlantas Polres Pati, Central Java, are still investigating the cause of the Jaya Utama Bus with number L 7158 UB crashing into a dump truck parked on the edge of the Pati-Rembang Ring Road kilometer 36 which resulted in a number of passengers being injured.
"We are still investigating and have not named a suspect in the accident case. However, the suspect in the accident is the PO Jaya Utama bus driver who is considered negligent," said Pati Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Adis Dani Garta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.
The reason, he said, was that the results of the investigation at the scene of the case showed that the dump truck transporting sand bearing the EU number H 1569 which was parked due to roadside damage did eat up part of the road, but vehicles were still able to pass.
However, he added, the road at that time had no bends so it could still be seen from afar when a truck was parked, so the bus driver was considered negligent in driving.
The accident resulted in a number of passengers being slightly injured and there was one passenger who suffered serious injuries due to a broken left leg.
Wakisih, a safe passenger, said that the accident, which occurred at around 13.30 WIB, was allegedly because the bus driver was traveling too fast, so when he noticed that a truck was parked, he failed to avoid a collision.
"This is because when they tried to avoid a collision, it turned out that there was already a truck overtaking it, so it failed to overtake and hit a truck parked on the side of the road," he said.
Andi, the driver of the dump truck involved in the collision, admitted that his truck had tire damage, so it was parked on the side of the road waiting for technicians to carry out repairs.
Previously, he said, the existence of the truck was also marked with a tree branch indicating that the truck had a damaged left tire and had to be jacked up. However, suddenly the PO Jaya Utama Bus hit the right side of the truck and shifted 3 meters away.
"It looks like the bus was about to overtake, but it failed because on the right side there was also an oncoming vehicle so a collision was unavoidable. Luckily, I immediately jumped into the rice field because I was afraid the truck would collapse," he said.
The bus passengers who were injured were rushed to the hospital using the Pati Police Traffic Unit and the Pati City Police. Some of the survivors were picked up by their family members.
