Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag Reiterates The Need For Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire's Fate Is A Puzzle

JAKARTA – The new manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag insists, Cristiano Ronaldo is in his plans for next season. CR7's instinct in scoring goals was the reason the Dutchman defended him.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford cannot be separated from rumors. He was rumored to be returning to Real Madrid in the nearest transfer window because he was not included in Erik ten Hag's scheme.

However, this was denied by the manager when he held his first press conference on Monday, May 23, local time.

"Of course (Cristiano Ronaldo is in my plans)," said ten Hag, quoted by The Sun.

On the same occasion, Erik ten Hag also answered questions regarding the fate of the captain's armband which is currently still in Harry Maguire's arms.

However, he refused to confirm whether the former Leicester City defender will remain captain or not next season.

"I must repeat that next season is a different season but I think he did a great job," said the 52-year-old coach.

"He's a great player, he's achieved a lot, also his contribution to Manchester United. So I can't wait to work with him."

Previously, United's interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, suggested United's players need to choose a new captain. The reason is, Maguire has been receiving a lot of criticism lately.

He was considered unfit to lead the team because his performance was far from good. A number of players have appeared in the list of candidates for the new captain of Manchester United.
