Former World Rank 2 Badminton Player Jan O Jorgensen Hanging Racket

JAKARTA - Former world number two badminton player from Denmark Jan O Jorgensen officially ended his international career at the 2020 Danish Open 2020 Super 750 level tournament which was held at Odense Sports Park, Odense, Denmark.

The quarter-final match against compatriot Anders Antonsen on Saturday, October 17, WIB became the last match played by Jorgensen before hanging his racket.

Despite losing to Antonsen with a score of 12-21, 10-21, the 32-year-old player admitted that this year's Denmark Open will always be a sweet memory for him. He also felt proud because he could close his career at the tournament.

“Today I am very emotional, I feel happy and touched. These will be unforgettable memories for me. Even though the results were not satisfactory, I am still proud to be able to compete in this tournament, ”said Jorgensen as quoted by Antara , Saturday.

Regarding his last match, he admitted that he was nervous, even before walking into the arena. On the one hand, he feels sad because he will end his career soon.

On the other hand, he is also nervous because the opponent he faces is the third seed, while Jorgensen is the eighth seed.

"I was very nervous when walking into the arena, because Antonsen is the superior. But when the match started, it felt even more mixed, there was a sense of emotion because this will be my last fight. Whatever the result, I have done my best today, "said Jorgensen.

Meanwhile, Antonsen admitted that he also felt emotional over the separation delivered by his colleague. He also had lost focus in the middle of the game considering that Jorgensen would soon retire.

“I can see he (Jorgensen) is very emotional, it shows in his eyes. I also feel it. But I tried hard to stay focused on the game. This will be a special memory for me, "said Antonsen.

Throughout his career, Jorgensen has won the Danish Open 2010, 2013 French Open, 2014 Indonesia Open and 2016 China Open titles. In addition, he also won a bronze medal at the 2015 BWF World Championships after being defeated by Malaysian seed Lee Chong Wei.
