Elected As Chair Of The Southeast Asian Iron And Steel Industry Association, President Director KS Silmy Promotes Production Increase To Strengthen Technology
JAKARTA - President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk Silmy Karim has been elected as Chairman of the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEAISI), an organization of iron and steel producers throughout Southeast Asia. SEAISI which was founded in 1971 consists of countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
According to Silmy, SEAISI plays an important role in facilitating the resolution of problems faced by steel producers in Southeast Asia. The iron and steel industry in Southeast Asia has become a catalyst for economic activity for countries in the region.
"SEAISI has also become a center for data and information related to industrial regulations, policies, and the economy that are useful for the further development of the steel industry in Southeast Asia," he said in an official statement, Monday, May 23.
Furthermore, Silmy explained that there are several things that are the main concern in this organization. The first is increasing the utilization of steel production capacity in Southeast Asia at an economical level for the long term.
Furthermore, SEASI's concern is increasing the efficiency and productivity of the steel industry in Southeast Asia, accelerating investment and the use of environmentally friendly technologies, and finally improving the quality of human resources.
"All of these things will later strengthen SEAISI member countries in facing various challenges ahead. We will also continue to strive for policies to deal with the onslaught of imported steel coming from outside Southeast Asia," said Silmy.
SEAISI also encourages its member countries to apply new technologies in the field of steel construction, development of digitalization in the steel industry.
Not only that, said Silmy, SEAISI also encourages its members to increase awareness of environmental sustainability by implementing green industry which is applied to the steel industry which is currently being intensively carried out in European countries and Japan.
"SEAISI also supports the recovery process of the steel industry after the COVID-19 pandemic in Southeast Asian countries and continues to contribute to the progress of the steel industry in Southeast Asia," concluded Silmy.
