Kominfo Supports Indonesian Script To Become Domain Name Website Address Or Email

JAKARTA - Indonesia has a variety of interesting languages and cultures in each region. This is also what makes the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) to preserve local culture in the process of digitizing the Indonesian script.

"The digitization of characters, one of which is through the registration of Indonesian script at Unicode," said the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, in his official statement quoted by VOI , Friday, October 16.

According to Johnny, the effort to digitize Nusantara Aksara is the support of the Government in order to preserve local cultural values, including the Indonesian script for future generations.

The digitization of Javanese characters is targeted to be completed in December 2020. Johnny hopes that this can be utilized by the Yogyakarta Palace and other cultural activists.

"Later, Javanese script can be used as a domain name, as well as website and email addresses. Hopefully, this initiative can be completed in December 2020," said Johnny.

Currently, there are several characters registered in Unicode, including Balinese script, Batak script, Bugis script, Javanese script, Makassar script, Rejang script and Sundanese script.

DI Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X appreciated the efforts to digitize Javanese script because it can preserve the mother tongue in Indonesia. "Not only Javanese, mother tongue from other provinces as well. My hope is that mother tongue does not lose to Indonesian."

On the other hand, Director General of Informatics Applications Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan stated that the digitization was intended so that the Nusantara script could be used in modern technological devices.

"Unicode is a technical standard designed so that text and symbols from all writing systems in the world can be displayed and used on digital platforms, such as PCs, cellphones, and other devices," said Semuel.

The man who is familiarly called Sammy explained that the digitization of the Nusantara Script was initiated by the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (PANDI), and supported by the Coordinating Ministry for PMK, the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Directorate General of Culture, the Language Agency, the Yogyakarta Palace, and the Yogyakarta Provincial Government.

Not to forget the Community of Aksara Activists who are also applying for Javanese Script to become an Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Where, according to Sammy Aksara Nusantara is currently in development and a website has been made.
