The Price Of Feed That Penetrates Rp. 500 Thousand Per Kilogram Makes The Price Of Chicken Eggs So Expensive

JAKARTA - The increase in the price of broiler eggs, especially in the Malang City area, East Java, to Rp. 27,000 per kilogram was triggered by high feed prices, so laying hens farmers had to make price adjustments.

The owner of Bina Ternak Farm Sunardi (52) in Malang Regency, East Java said, since the last eight months the price of chicken feed in the form of concentrate has increased quite high, so farmers must make price adjustments so as not to lose money.

"The increase from the normal price of IDR 380 thousand per 50 kilograms, is now IDR 480 thousand to IDR 500 thousand," said Sunardi, quoted from Antara, Friday, May 20.

Sunardi explained that the production of chicken eggs on farms in the Karangploso District, Malang Regency, supplies the Malang City, Malang Regency, Batu City to Sidoarjo area in East Java.

According to him, the price of broiler eggs at the farmer level is currently adjusted to Rp24,500 per kilogram. With this increase, the price of broiler eggs in the people's market currently reaches Rp. 27,000 per kilogram.

"The increase in concentrate did not immediately jump to Rp. 500 thousand per 50 kilograms. It was gradual over approximately eight months and currently the price is at its peak," he said.

He has approximately 20 thousand laying hens that produce 900 kilograms to one ton of eggs per day. To meet the feed required 2.4 tons of concentrate per day. The concentrate is mixed with corn and rice bran or bran.

Meanwhile, the price of corn, he continued, has now decreased to Rp. 5,000 per kilogram from the previous Rp. 5,500 to Rp. 5,700 per kilogram with a moisture content of 16-17 percent.

With the price of broiler eggs at the farmer level of Rp. 24,500 per kilogram, he admitted that he was now able to cover operational costs. However, to cover losses for approximately eight months, he still can't be sure of this.

"For now, we can close operations. But to cover debts that have been lost for the past eight months, it seems like we haven't. It's still quite difficult," he said.

He added, if later the price of chicken feed, especially concentrate, had decreased in price from the producers, then the laying hens farmers would also make price adjustments.

"Of course there will be further adjustments. For now, why increase one of them because the price of feed is no longer reasonable, even many farmers are pessimistic and do not continue their business in chicken farming," he said.

The price of broiled chicken eggs in the Malang City area, East Java, was reported to have increased after Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijriah from the previous Rp. 25,000 per kilogram to Rp. 27,000 per kilogram.

The increase in the price of broiler eggs this time is different from conditions in previous years, where after Lebaran the price of these commodities tends to decrease.

During the Eid 1443 Hijri celebrations, the price of broiler eggs ranges from Rp. 24,000 to Rp. 25,000 per kilogram. Under normal conditions, the price will gradually decrease after the Eid celebrations to be in the range of Rp. 23,000-Rp. 24,000 per kilogram.

Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the price of chicken eggs in the Malang City area has increased since May 18, 2022 to Rp. 26,500 per kilogram from the previous Rp. 25,000 per kilogram.

On May 19, 2022 until now, the price of these commodities has increased again to Rp. 27,000 per kilogram. On average in East Java, the price of broiler eggs is around Rp. 26,450 per kilogram, an increase of 1.93 percent.
