Angkasa Pura Claims Runway 3 Soetta Will Make Effective Take Off And Landing Aircraft
JAKARTA - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport currently operates with three runways, namely Runway 1 in the South and Runway 2 and Runway 3 in the North. This was criticized by public policy observers who considered it not optimal in increasing flight traffic.
VP of Corporate Communication of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Yado Yarismano also responded to this. According to him, Runway 3 is fully operated with dimensions of 3,000 x 60 meters, which aims to smooth traffic and increase flight capacity, of course by prioritizing safety principles and complying with regulations.
He said, based on previous reviews from observers of public policy and consumer protection, basically Runway 3 had been planned for a long time. That, he said, had gone through the stages of discussion and coordination with all stakeholders as well as through the studies stipulated in the master plan and obtained regulatory approval.
Until now, the number of flights that have been served on Runway 3 alone has reached 864 flight movements since fully operational from December 20, 2019 to January 6, 2020, with details of 587 domestic flight movements and 277 international flight movements.
"Runway 3 will not operate successfully if stakeholders do not coordinate closely and support each other. We are very grateful to AirNav Indonesia, airlines, and the community for their support for Soekarno-Hatta Airport," Yado said in a statement received by VOI, Monday, January 13.
He added that the operation of Runway 3 clearly made Soekarno-Hatta Airport have more space on the air side so that it could be more effective in serving aircraft take offs and landing.
"This is quite pronounced where during the peak season of the Christmas and New Year holidays, Soekarno-Hatta was able to smoothly serve busier flights compared to normal conditions," said Yado.
Furthermore, Yado said, with the presence of the east connecting taxiway (ECT) at the end of last year, which complements the operation of the west connecting taxiway (WCT), the three runways can be optimal in improving flight safety, efficiency and flight capacity.
"Aviation safety has increased because Soekarno-Hatta clearly has more space on the air side. Efficiency also increases as the number of aircraft queued on the taxiway and in the air decreases (airborne holding). The taxi distance from the apron to the runway or vice versa is also closer and more varied, "he explained.
Related to aviation safety aspects. Previously, the Director General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation Polana B. Pramesti ensured that Runway 3 operations could be operated in accordance with aviation safety and security standards.
"From the start, Runway 3 was built with a runway dependent concept, by meeting the necessary safety aspects in accordance with ICAO compliances, with a segregated air traffic system handling strategy," explained Polana.
With regard to aspects of safety standards, PT Angkasa Pura II is always committed to maintaining safety aspects in accordance with ICAO compliances. PT Angkasa Pura II also coordinates with Airnav Indonesia in regulating the air traffic system.
Meanwhile, PT Angkasa Pura II is currently making improvements to the Stop Bar marking from Runway 2 to Runway 3. In the future, apart from that, PT Angkasa Pura II also has plans to build additional facilities for Runway 3 so that movement on the airside is more optimal.
With the development stages carried out by PT Angkasa Pura II and AirNav Indonesia, the flight capacity at Soekarno-Hatta is targeted to increase to 114 flight movements per hour.
