Taylor Swift Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree: We Will Grow More Resistant
JAKARTA - Taylor Swift received an honorary degree Honoris Causa as a Doctor of Fine Arts at New York University on Wednesday, May 18. The singer was present wearing a purple toga and regalia to give a speech at the graduation.
"Hello, I'm Taylor. The last time I stood in a stadium this size, I was dancing in heels and wearing a leotard. This outfit is so much more comfortable," Taylor Swift said, starting her speech at Yankee Stadium.
“Life can be tough especially if you lift everything. Part of growing up and starting a new chapter in life is about accepting and letting go,” he said.
He remembers the moment when he was in high school. This 11 Grammy winner admitted that he had worked on assignments at the airport.
“I never had a normal college experience. I attended a public high school up to grade 10 and finished my education doing homework on the airport terminal floor,” said Swift.
“Sometimes you guys will mess up (the moment of growing up). Me, too. And when I do, you'll read about it on the internet," Swift said.
Ending his speech, Taylor Swift gave a message to young people to continue to rise from adversity. They will grow into more personal in the future.
"Difficult things will happen to us. We will recover. We will learn from it. We will grow stronger because of it," he said.
Taylor Swift received the honoris causa for her achievements and work in the music world. A career since the age of 15, Taylor Swift has sold 100 million albums and is the female singer with the most album wins at the Grammys.
"I hope you all know how proud I am to be able to share this day with you," Swift concluded.
