World's Richest Footballer Faiq Bolkiah Still Looking For First Goal In Thai Club
JAKARTA - The richest footballer in the world, Faiq Bolkiah, is still "fasting" on goals with Thai club Chonburi FC. He is still searching for his first goal since joining the club late last year.
The 24-year-old moved to Chonburi FC from Portuguese club Maritimo in December 2021. He only made his debut at his new club earlier this year.
Bolkiah is the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei. The 24-year-old player is reported to have a total wealth of £16 billion or IDR291 trillion.
He had previously been at youth level with English giants Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester.
The move to Chonburi gave a new step to his career line. There he started his journey brilliantly after being man of the match twice, but always failed to score in the 14 appearances he had made.
So far, regular minutes are still hard to come by for the winger. A total of five appearances even started from the bench.
In addition, he has also been substituted at half-time in two of the times he has started the game as a starter. His most recent appearance came when Chonburi lost 1-4 to Pathum United in their last game of the season.
The result that made Chonburi have to finish in seventh place in the final standings. Even though he hasn't scored a goal, Bolkiah has ended the campaign with four assists.
"Thank you The Sharks fans [Chonburi's nickname] for the support this season. You are amazing," Bolkiah wrote in a post on Instagram.
Bolkiah was born in Los Angeles and was educated in England while pursuing his dream of becoming a footballer. He first joined Southampton's academy before training with Reading and undergoing trials at Arsenal.
Chelsea then withdrew him and gave him a two-year contract. The contract was not renewed which saw him join Leicester in 2016. He then signed his first professional contract with the Foxes, but was released four years later.
