Billboard Music Awards Give Special Tribute To Eddie Van Halen

JAKARTA - The 2020 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) has just ended. Held at Dolby Theater, Los Angeles without an audience on October 14 US time, a special tribute was paid to the late Eddie Van Halen.

BBMA host Kelly Clarkson introduces a segment of the show "one's we lost". He mentioned several musicians who died this year. Apart from Eddie Van Halen, there are also names like Mac Davis, Juice WRLD and Little Richard.

"The real giants were taken from us," Clarkson said of Eddie Van Halen, the legendary rock star.

"He is a legendary guitarist, an amazing musician, and an extraordinary songwriter."

In addition, BBMA played a rare Van Halen show on television. The band performed the Panama song at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas with the formation of Eddie and Alex Van Halen on guitar and drums, Eddie's son Wolfgang on bass and David Lee Roth on vocals.

After some of Van Halen's epic performances were shown, the camera then switched to Eddie Van Halen's iconic guitar which was plastered on stage. With that one spotlight on it, it was emotional.

Eddie Van Halen died last October 6 after losing to throat cancer. Eddie's cancer is said to have been caused by holding a metal guitar pick on his tongue for decades when Eddie played the two-handed tapping technique that is the hallmark of this Dutch guitarist from Rangkasbitung, Banten, Indonesia.
