4th Place In French MotoGP, Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo Frustrated: So Far, I'm Not The Favourite
JAKARTA - Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP racer, Fabio Quartararo, tries to remain optimistic after getting less than optimal results at the French MotoGP, Sunday 15 May.
Quartararo said there was stiff competition with Aleix Espargaro in the race. He also revealed the conditions during the race had made him feel a little frustrated.
In the race at the Le Mans Circuit, France, Quartararo finished the race in fourth position. He tried to finish better, but failed to overtake Aleix.
"Aleix (Espargaro) was the fastest throughout the race, and I couldn't overtake him," said Fabio Quartararo, quoted from the official MotoGP website.
"I feel lucky to overtake, but that's also because it was helped by the driver's own mistakes, and there was a crash up front," he explained.
"We were strong at the third corner and the ninth corner, but on the straights we lost a lot of positions. If we make a mistake at the start with this bike, then the race is over for me," continued Quartararo.
Quartararo also expressed his frustration during the race at Le Mans. The 23-year-old racer said the motorbike he was riding did have speed, but was unable to maneuver to overtake opponents.
It made him feel like he wasn't the favorite to win. "I have speed but can't overtake, it's frustrating," said Quartararo.
"When you lose 5-8 meters of acceleration, you can't get close enough to the next corner to get into position."
"So far, I'm not the favourite. Now all I have to do is don't make mistakes."
Quartararo is currently still at the top with 102 points from seven races. However, the difference in points with Aleix Espargaro in second place and Enea Bastianini in third, is not that far away.
