Women In Hijabs Bring Children To Celebrate Vesak At Borobudur: Not Only Buddhists Are Happy
JAKARTA - After two years of not being implemented, thousands of Buddhists again held a series of commemorations of the Tri Sacred Vesak, at Borobudur Temple.
Together with monks from various sanghas, since 05.30 WIB in the morning, around 1,200 Buddhists have been preparing to take part in the Vesak parade from Mendut Temple to the Great Borobudur Temple. No less enthusiastic, thousands of residents have also been waiting for the procession along the Mendut Temple road to Borobudur Temple.
"Usually there is every year, Ma'am. We residents around here also watch it. But two years ago there was no procession like this," said Asti, one of the villagers around Mendut Temple, Monday, May 16, quoted from Ministry of Religion official website.
The veiled woman seemed enthusiastic to see the procession with her three children.
"When it comes to Vesak, it's really crowded here, Ma'am. It's not just Buddhists who are happy. Yesterday we also felt that we were sent food packages, lots of them. Thank God," he added.
Several residents also seemed enthusiastic about recording the parade with their smartphones. In fact, some seem to be broadcasting live on their respective social media accounts.
Every time the float stops in the middle of a crowd of people, residents can also hear Vesak congratulations.
"Happy Vesak Day, may you be happy," said the crowd of residents who were greeted with a wave of thanks from the participants of the Vesak parade.
It was different with Yadi, who deliberately rode a motorbike from Yogyakarta to Magelang to see this procession.
"That's on purpose, Ma'am. I'd like to tell the children at once, so they can understand this when Buddhist friends celebrate Vesak," he said.
The blessing of Vesak was also felt by one of the motorcycle taxi drivers around Mendut Temple.
"Wow, it's just been busy this year, before because of COVID-19 there was no celebration here. This year, Alhamdulillah, it's been busy since yesterday, Ma'am. Yesterday's Eid holiday was also pretty good," he said.
