Police Kill Former Transgender Lover, Victim's Body Was Buried In The Forest
JAKARTA - A policeman has been detained in Russia on suspicion of murdering his former gender lover. Denis Kalinin (20) from Novosibirsk in Siberia is accused of strangling Viktoria Basakovskaya (24), a man who is now a woman.
The policeman was accused of cutting off one of Viktoria's fingers. He used that finger to unlock the victim's cellphone before sending a message that suggested that another ex-lover was responsible.
According to the Daily Star , Wednesday, October 14, Denis allegedly buried Viktoria's body in the forest. The patrol officer then reported Viktoria was missing and was actively involved in the search.
The victim's friend, Alina, became suspicious when she received a text message in which Viktoria appeared to praise Denis while claiming that a former lover named Maxim "wanted to kill her".
The message also asks Alina not to look for him if he is lost. Alina was suspicious of the contents of the message and spelling errors, he told police.
"He killed him very early in the morning, and I got a message from Viktoria in the afternoon," said Alina.
"He cut off his finger and used it to unlock his cellphone. He wanted to cover his tracks."
Denis confessed to the murder and showed Viktoria's grave to law enforcement.
In recent years Viktoria has provided graphic accounts to the media regarding her transition from male to female. She said: "I look like a girl. The only thing is I haven't changed my passport.
"Every six months I undergo medical and psychiatric examinations. My family has fully supported me. My mother and I choose beautiful clothes, cosmetics, jewelry together - she supports me completely. I am very grateful."
The Kazakh victim is still officially identified by the male name on her passport, Nikolai Basakovsky.
