BMKG Issues Early Warning For Rob Floods In 3 Regions In NTT
KUPANG - The Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning for coastal flooding (rob) which could potentially hit three areas in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"Rob floods are predicted to occur on May 15-16, 2022 in the coastal areas of Flores Island, Sumba Island, and Sabu Raijua Island", said Head of the Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station, Syaeful Hadi, as reported by Antara, Saturday, May 14.
He explained that the tidal wave was caused by high tide activity, high wave conditions, strong winds, and high rainfall that could affect the dynamics of coastal areas.
Syaeful appealed to people living in areas potentially affected by the tidal wave to increase awareness by taking disaster mitigation steps to minimize the impact.
Coastal flooding can also have an impact on disrupting transportation around ports and coasts as well as loading and unloading activities at ports.

"The public must always be vigilant and alert to anticipate the impact of tidal flooding so as not to cause big losses", he said.
Syaeful also appealed to the public to continue to pay attention to maritime weather information from the BMKG to understand weather conditions and potential disasters in the surrounding environment.
"People should not easily believe weather information from unaccounted for sources, especially those disseminated through social media networks", he said.
