Shin Tae-yong Hopes Indonesia Meets Vietnam In Hanoi 2021 SEA Games Final
JAKARTA – The coach of the Indonesia U-23 national team, Shin Tae-yong, admitted that he wanted to meet Vietnam in the Hanoi 2021 SEA Games final after winning over the Philippines in the third match of Group A, Friday, May 13.
Indonesia and Vietnam had previously met in the first match of the group stage. At that time the host beat the Garuda squad with a score of 3-0.
For that, if he reaches the final, Shin hopes that the opponent he faces is Vietnam so that he can avenge his defeat and win a gold medal.
"I want to meet Vietnam again in the final," said the Korean coach.
Indonesia got its second win in the group stage over the Philippines to collect six points from the three matches they have played. The number of points made Shin Tae-yong's troops sit in second place in the standings.
However, this place has not actually guaranteed the Garuda squad to penetrate the semifinals. Because Myanmar, who is trailing in third position, also has a chance to make it to the semifinals.
To be able to penetrate the semifinals, then Indonesia must beat Myanmar in the final party of the group stage later.
Because of that, Shin Tae-yong also took the time to watch the Myanmar versus Vietnam match after arresting the Philippines. This was done by the Korean coach to find out the tactics of his potential opponent later.
"I watched the Myanmar-Vietnam match live," he said.
Indonesia is pegged to get gold at this year's SEA Games. In the previous edition in the Philippines 2019, Indonesia also reached the final, but brought home silver after losing to Vietnam.
The Red and White Team has been fasting for gold medals at the SEA Games since 1991. For this reason, the hopes of the Indonesian public for the U-23 Indonesian national team to become champions are very high.
