Officially Operated, PLTM Maiting Hulu-2 Will Boost Green Energy Mix In South Sulawesi Up To 38.8 Percent

JAKARTA - The operation of the Maiting Hulu-2 Mini-hydro Power Plant (PLTM) with a capacity of 2x4 megawatts (MW) has boosted the energy mix in the southern Sulawesi electricity system.

General Manager of PLN Regional Main Unit (UIW) South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar) Awaluddin Hafid said, currently the percentage of new renewable energy (EBT) in the PLN electricity system in southern Sulawesi is 38.8 percent above national average target.

PLTM Maiting Hulu-2 is a power plant built and operated by an independent power producer (IPP), namely PT Brantas Prospek Energy. The operation of this environmentally friendly generator can electrify 8,000 households with a power of 900 Volt Ampere (VA).

"This plant also strengthens the electricity system managed by PLN UIW Sulselrabar by utilizing the Maiting River discharge," said Awaluddin in a written statement, Friday, May 13.

Awaluddin explained that the green energy produced by the Madong PLTM would be sent through a medium voltage network (JTM) of 20 Kilo Volt (kV) along a 31 kilometer circuit (kms) to interconnection points belonging to private and PLN power plants at the Kalimbuang and Rantepao Hubung Substations for later electricity. channeled to customers in North Toraja Regency.

"In the future, based on the RUPTL guidelines for 2021-2030, PLN UIW Sulselrabar will build 12 PLTS on several islands in the Provinces of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi with a capacity of 17.61 MWp," said Awaluddin.

PLN is committed to supporting the transition to renewable energy and this power plant also plays a role in one of the G20 pillars by 2022, namely sustainable and inclusive growth with a sustainable energy transition being a priority issue.

The President Director of PT Brantas Energy, Firmansyah Ibnu Haryoso, welcomed the cooperation between the two parties.
