Chelsea Vs Liverpool FA Cup Final Preview: The Reds' Chance To End 16 Years Of Title Famine
JAKARTA – The match between Liverpool and Chelsea in the 2021/2022 FA Cup final will take place Saturday, May 14, 2022 at night WIB. This will be the 141st edition of the FA Cup final.
The meeting which will take place at Wembley Stadium will be the second clash between the Blues and the Reds in the final this season.
Previously, the two teams had faced each other in the English League Cup final in February. At that time Liverpool came out victorious on penalties.
For Chelsea, the FA Cup is the only domestic trophy at stake this season. They beat Crystal Palace in the semifinals in hopes of picking up the title after losing out in the league.
Meanwhile, Liverpool won one of their many battles with Manchester City to reach the final round. The FA Cup keeps the prospect of winning four trophies in one season still lingering in the minds of the Merseyside club's fans.
However, getting four titles in one season seems a bit difficult for Liverpool to make it happen. The reason is, their chances in the Premier League are smaller when compared to City.
Thus, the FA Cup trophy is the most realistic in the domestic arena. Because to embrace the Premier League title, Klopp's squad still has to rely on the results of the match that City gets.
The Reds are potentially just 90 minutes away from ending a 16-year title drought in the FA Cup. They last lifted this trophy in 2005/2006 when they beat West Ham United in the final.
Previously, Klopp had never led Liverpool beyond the fifth round of the FA Cup before the 2021/2022 edition. Thus, this is his first chance to win the FA Cup since taking over as coach at Liverpool.
Klopp will come into this match unbeaten in his last 15 matches in all competitions since being beaten by Inter Milan at Anfield in March.
Seven of their last eight matches ended in wins. However, three games without a clean sheet have become a tough reality.
However, the chance to win two domestic titles for the first time since the 2000/2001 season is one Liverpool don't want to miss.
Forecast Formation:
