Jakarta Residents, Workers Hold May Day Action This Saturday, Avoid Senayan Area

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya appealed to the public to avoid the Senayan area on Saturday tomorrow, because the location will be used for a labor action titled "May Day Fiesta".

"We urge all Jakartans to stay away from the Senayan area and in front of the DPR/MPR RI buildings on Saturday from morning to evening," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

In addition to these areas, Sambodo also asked the public to avoid other areas that were also affected by the May Day Fiesta action, namely Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto starting from Simpang Semanggi to the front of the DPR/MPR Building.

Then the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Senayan, Youth Gate, Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman starting from the Senayan Roundabout to Simpang Semanggi.

People who want to do sports in the GBK area have to postpone the activity because they are worried that buses will be crowded with mass workers to the location of the action.

"It's also best not to exercise on Saturday at GBK because from the morning there will be bus arrivals between 800 and 1000 buses that will transport the masses attending the May Day Fiesta," said Sambodo.

Sambodo said the police did not close the area to the public, despite issuing an advisory to avoid the GBK area on Saturday.

"It is not closed to the public, but the general public should avoid the area first," he said.
