The Situation In Thamrin City Is Safe Tonight, No Looting
JAKARTA - News has been circulating on social media about Thamrin City Mall, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, being burned and looted after a demonstration against the Job Creation Act. This news was denied by the police.
This was confirmed by the Head of Central Jakarta Police, Kombes Heru Novianto. Heru emphasized that there was no looting incident at Thamrin City Mall.
"I make sure there is no looting. I am at the TKP (scene of the case). It's all safe, no one has been looted," Heru said when confirmed, Tuesday, October 13 evening.
Heru continued, currently the conditions around Thamrin City Mall have also been conducive. Residents who previously gathered have returned home.
"Currently it is sloping. The residents have returned. We, the (police) troops have also returned," he said.
Separately, Kapolsek Tanah Abang AKBP Raden Muhammad Jauhari admitted that there had been a mass gathering in front of Thamrin City.
The crowd were rioters who fled when clashes broke out in the area in front of the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Tuesday afternoon. The crowd who fled after clashing with the police fled towards Gambir and then to Menteng, until they reached Thamrin City.
"Then our troops were intercepted. There was already friction. There was no looting, nothing. Just friction. The shooting of tear gas alone. So, there was no burning and looting," said Raden.
It is known that two types of videos were circulating on social media related to the riots at Thamrin City Mall, as a result of clashes between the provocateurs of the demonstration at the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue.
