KUDUS - The Agriculture and Food Service of Kudus Regency, Central Java, has yet to find any livestock in the local area exposed to foot and mouth disease (FMD).
"The results of monitoring since Monday, May 9 until today have not found any livestock at the farmer or trader level who have been exposed to FMD," said Head of the Livestock Section of the Agriculture and Food Service of Kudus Regency, Sidi Purnomo, when he met on the sidelines of checking cattle on farms in Besito Village. , Gebog District reported by Antara, Thursday, May 12.
Since the discovery of the PMK case in East Java, he said, the Kudus Agriculture Service immediately took action to anticipate it by checking on farms and traders. Livestock that are monitored, ranging from cows, buffalo, goats, pigs and sheep.
"We also monitor the livestock market while communicating and providing information and education related to PMK," he said.
According to Sidi, the supervision team deployed there are three teams to monitor a number of farmers and traders. Meanwhile, there are no reports that livestock have been exposed to FMD.
Farm animals infected with FMD can be seen from the symptoms, namely high fever between 39-41 degrees Celsius, excessive salivation and foaming, some have blisters on the tongue and oral mucosa, limping on the legs, and ends with loose nails, refuses to eat , difficulty standing or shaking and rapid breathing.
"The mouth and nail disease cannot be transmitted or infected to humans and cannot be transmitted through meat and milk to humans," he said.
Nevertheless, he appealed to the public to remain vigilant so as not to spread the FMD virus to the environment which can be transmitted to livestock through meat and milk.
"If you want to buy meat, look for beef that is slaughtered at a slaughterhouse supervised by the government which is marked with a stamp or stamp on the meat," he said.
