Tomorrow, Tito Karnavian Will Inaugurate The Director General Of Regional Autonomy Akmal Malik As Acting Governor Of West Sulawesi

JAKARTA - The Director General of Regional Autonomy (Otda) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Akmal Malik will be sworn in as the Acting Governor of West Sulawesi. The inauguration is planned to be held at the Ministry of Home Affairs office on Thursday, May 12 tomorrow.

The news was conveyed by the Special Staff of the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, Kastorius Sinaga.

"That's right. The plan is tomorrow Thursday, May 12 at 08.00 in the Sasana Bhakti Praja Room, Ministry of Home Affairs," Kastorius told reporters in a written statement, Wednesday, May 11.

Apart from Akmal, there are four other acting governors who will be appointed by Tito on the same day. They are:

1. Banten Regional Secretary Al Muktabar who became the Acting Governor of Banten

2. Director General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ridwan Djamaluddin who became Acting Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands

3. Expert Staff for Sportivity Culture of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hamka Hendra Noer who will be inaugurated as Acting Governor of Gorontalo

4. Komjen (Ret.) Paulus Waterpauw who now serves as Deputy for Management of Potential Border Areas at the BNPP Ministry of Home Affairs as Acting Governor of West Papua.

"Mr. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian will inaugurate 5 Acting Governors," said Kastorius.

For information, there are 272 regional heads in Indonesia whose terms of office will expire in the near future. Later, they will be replaced by officials until the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) which will be held in 2024.

Regarding filling this position, DPR Chair Puan Maharani asked the government to be transparent when selecting the acting regional head. Puan also encouraged the selection process to involve public participation.

This was conveyed by Puan in response to 101 regions that will be filled by acting regional heads in 2022.

"Prepare adequate facilities if the community wants to provide input and carry out screening in a measurable manner and free from political interests," said Puan.
