Demonstration Against Job Creation Law In East Jakarta, Students Bakar Ban
JAKARTA - A number of students who took action to reject the Job Creation Law around Ibnu Chaldun University, Pulogadung, East Jakarta burned tires in the middle of the road. The tire burning action took place near the Transjakarta bus stop.
As a result of this action, the surrounding traffic choked up. The police also intervened in traffic engineering. Drivers are diverted to use the Transjakarta road.
Firefighters moved to extinguish the flames burning the tires, while the police intercepted students and directed them back to the campus environment.
A quarrel occurred between the demonstrators and the authorities who broke up the action.
The action, which lasted for about 30 minutes, resulted in a traffic jam around Jalan Raya Pemuda about 500 meters leading to Arion Mal.
"We deployed ten personnel, from the sub-district five people and five from the sub-district. There are Koramil, Dishub, damkar and Polsek as well," said Pulogadung Satpol PP Commander Andik Suharyanto as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 13.
Protesters will head for the Merdeka Palace but wait for their friends who are still on their way. Finally they blocked the road in protest against the Omnibus Law.
"We burn these tires, we are asked to disperse, we don't want to," said student coordinator Ramadhan Loilatu.
