Preventing Outbreaks Of Diseases Of The Mouth And Nails Of Animals, Cattle Entering Lumajang Will Be Examined

LUMAJANG - An epidemic of mouth and nail disease (FMD) that infects animals has spread in several areas in East Java (East Java). The Lumajang Regency Government responded by screening or screening cattle that entered its regional borders.

"We will screen cattle owned by farmers in Lumajang and cattle that will enter our area," said Lumajang Regent Thoriqul Haq in Lumajang, Tuesday, May 10.

Anticipating this outbreak, the Regent of Lumajang has also attended a Coordination Meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo and the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Monday 9 May evening.

According to him, PMK which infects a number of cattle in Lumajang Regency is increasingly worrying. Reports from officers from the Animal Health Center (Puskeswan) have found cases of cattle PMK in four sub-districts in Lumajang, namely Pasirian, Kunir, Senduro and Klakah sub-districts.

"The screening effort is aimed at knowing the condition of the cows while preventing the spread of FMD and also for the purposes of the animal market," he said.

He said the sale and purchase of cattle in the animal market has the potential to spread PMK because the cattle sellers do not only come from Lumajang Regency but from several surrounding areas.

"In addition to screening, treatment is also carried out by administering drugs while waiting for a vaccine from the Ministry of Agriculture related to the PMK," he said.

From the results of the examination of 231 cows in Lumajang Regency, it was found that 124 sick cows were spread across four sub-districts, namely Pasirian, Kunir, Senduro and Klakah sub-districts.

Previously, on May 5, 2022, it was confirmed that there were four regencies in East Java whose livestock had been infected with foot and mouth disease, namely Gresik, Lamongan, Sidoarjo, and Mojokerto.
