Flying To The US, Jokowi Will Meet ASEAN Leaders And Joe Biden
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo left for Washington DC, United States this morning. Accompanied by Iriana Joko Widodo, Jokowi flew from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang.
During his visit to America, Jokowi was also accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi, and Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has been in the US to prepare for the President's working visit.
"This morning, the delegation and I will depart for a working visit to Washington DC from May 11 to 13, 2022," said Jokowi before taking off at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tuesday, May 10.
In America later, Jokowi said that he would attend a series of meetings of the ASEAN-US Special Summit (AUSS) for two days.
The series of meetings that Jokowi will attend include meetings with members of congress, meetings with major American CEOs, meetings with Vice President Harris and the American Climate Change Team, and a High Level meeting of ASEAN Leaders and President Biden.
Jokowi said that currently Indonesia is the coordinator of the ASEAN-US partnership for the period 2021-2024. Indonesia hopes that this Special Summit will result in cooperation that can contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
With the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, Jokowi continued, ASEAN is ready to synergize with all ASEAN partner countries, including the United States, in developing concrete cooperation that is inclusive and mutually beneficial.
"We have a responsibility to make the Indo-Pacific a peaceful, stable and prosperous region," he said.
The plan is that Jokowi and his entourage will return to Jakarta as soon as the series of meetings are over on the evening of May 13. Jokowi is scheduled to arrive in the country on Sunday morning, May 15, 2022.
