Reject Job Creation Law, SBY: Small Party Democrats Now, Not Want To Fight The State

JAKARTA - Chairman of the High Council of the Democratic Party, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) said that his party rejected the Omnibus Law on Job Creation not because it wanted to fight the state. According to him, there were two main things that made his party reject the law that was passed on Monday, October 5.

"If then it is considered Democrats against the state, yes no. Democrats are small now, he said, and we are also outside the government. We know ourselves, yes, where we have a voice," said SBY in a dialogue broadcast on YouTube, Monday, 12 October.

There are two reasons for the Democrat Party faction in the DPR to reject the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja because the content in the law is problematic and this has become the spotlight of many parties.

The problems with this law, said SBY, could be not only in substance such as the articles in it but the basic concept and targets that the government will achieve in the future.

"So it takes time to complete it clearly. If the bill still has problems that may be serious and then passed, it is almost certain that once implemented it will cause even bigger problems," he said.

Meanwhile, the second reason is the large number of civil society who reject the law, including labor.

"Now, the Democrats are of the opinion that when the high rejection is passed, resistance will almost certainly occur," he said.

So, instead of hastily ratifying it, the party bearing the mercy star symbol actually suggests that this law should not be forced or postponed until it is truly supported by the community.

Moreover, the DPR and the government, he said, should invite those who have not agreed to talk then so that there is a common ground for agreement.

"So this is what the Democrat Party Faction said yesterday was not right," said the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Finish it first, get rid of the problem first. Then build better communication, better dialogue, especially with parties who don't agree," he added.

SBY also said it was natural for his party faction to have a say in the plenary session a few ago. He considered that the meeting was the right place for his factions to respond to the draft law before it was finally passed.

"Because the Democrats don't have a chance, don't have a way to do that, yes, they spoke in the DPR RI and yesterday that was the place for the plenary session of the DPR RI. It should be like that," he concluded.
