Easy Ways To Restore Fast Weight Gain After Eid

JAKARTA - During Eid, some people may not be separated from opor ayam, curry rendang, and ketupat as well as various special holiday dishes. Even during Ramadan, you can find those who break their fast by eating oily food, lots of flour, and sweet drinks.

Consumption of fatty foods, high calories, and excessive sugar contribute to people's weight gain and this is not easy to lose quickly, according to Health Claims Senior Manager of Sequis, Dr. Yosef Fransiscus.

"Consuming calories higher than what the body needs have the potential to make weight gain drastically. For example, the body needs around 2000 calories, this amount can be present in one serving of Eid dishes," said Yosef, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, May 8.

Foods containing sugar in the Eid meal, such as pastries that are often consumed in large portions, also trigger weight gain so that obesity occurs more quickly, so that you are at risk of developing diabetes.

According to Yosef, in addition to foods high in calories and sugar, the cause of rapid weight gain is also due to lack of sleep and physical activity. Some people, especially doing homecoming to their hometowns, also tend to spend more time relaxing.

"When the body lacks sleep, the hormones insulin, leptin, and ghrelin become imbalanced which can trigger a higher appetite so that the duration and portion of eating can be more than usual," said Yosef.

Lack of physical activity such as exercise causes the body to experience a calorie surplus or the number of calories that enter will be more than burned. Excess calories in the body if not burned out will become fat deposits and weight will soar up.

According to Yosef, giving the body delicious food is not a problem but it should not be too fast when eating it so that it can enjoy the food and the body is not in a hurry to process food.

"Occasionally we can eat well for fun and stay in touch as long as the portion is not excessive. During Eid or on vacation, we still need to control ourselves in matters of food because the body actually needs nutritious food and enough rest," he said.

Overeating and rushing can make the body full faster and cause digestive problems. When dining with family or relatives, try to eat 20 percent less food.

Then, it's best not to order food and snacks in large quantities so that you don't have to bring food home.

Yosef also suggested that people stay active in sports as they used to do in the early days of the pandemic so that the body remains strong and immunity is maintained.

Exercise, he said, is a simple and inexpensive way to increase stamina and endurance, help control weight gain, and maintain organ function.

“When you are on vacation, enjoy time with your family by doing physical activities often so that your body will get back in shape and burn calories. When Eid is over and back to activities, sports activities also need to be continued," he said.

People can do exercise at least 3 times a week with a duration of 15-45 minutes. The duration and interval can be increased according to the ability of the body. As for this type of exercise, you can go for a morning walk, swimming, jogging and yoga.

"For those who are healthy, there are no problems with the heart or foot joints and are not overweight, they can exercise, run or cycle," said Yosef.
