Spotify Changes Greenroom App Name To Spotify Live
JAKARTA - Spotify will change the name of Spotify Greenroom's live audio feature to "Spotify Live".
Spotify Live will later be available as a standalone app, and will be a live streaming feature in Spotify's main app.
When launched later, the main Spotify app will only show content directly from the original program, while the Spotify Live app will be standalone allowing for independent content creators.
"While both apps will now show live content, there will be some differences," the company told TechCrunch.
Spotify Live will continue to work like Greenroom did, enabling content creators to interact with their audience in real time.
But if you listen to it live in the main Spotify app, you won't get interactive features like in the Spotify Live app.
Spotify also acquired the Locker Room app from Betty Labs in March 2021 for a purchase of US$62 million, and changed its name to Greenroom in June 2021.
In the fall, the company launched a weekly direct-to-Greenroom event that leverages existing Spotify playlists and popular programs, hoping to drive consumer adoption.
Unfortunately, Greenroom failed to gain traction in a market already moving away from live audio trends like Clubhouse.
According to data from the company, post-acquisition Greenroom gained 275,000 downloads globally, on Apple's App Store.
