The Recognition Of Shaquille O'Neal Who Always Abstained From Voting In The US Presidential Election
JAKARTA - Former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal made a somewhat surprising confession. It turned out that all this time he was abstaining from, aka never taking part in the American democratic party.
However, he explained that he now felt better because he had finally exercised his voting rights.
This year's United States presidential election will feature Donald Trump taking on Joe Biden. This battle of the two candidates inspired O'Neal to vote for the first time.
But the New Jersey native did not provide information on which presidential candidate received his vote.
"I voted for the first time, and it felt good," O'Neal revealed on his own podcast - The Big Podcast with Shaq, reported by MARCA , Monday, October 12.
The former Los Angeles Lakers icon explained that he knew there was no reason not to vote in previous elections. And he found that the first time he voted at 48 was ridiculous.
"You know I always like to be honest on my podcasts," O'Neal continues to tell co-host John Kincade.
"I've never voted before, America. But now I'm doing all these voting campaigns, and you know one thing I never like to do is be a hypocrite.
Kincade was surprised to hear O'Neil's confession: "I don't believe this. (But) I'm glad you finally voted. It was incredible. You're very honest. I can't believe you didn't vote for [Barack] Obama."
One of his objections to the previous voting appears to have been due to a lack of understanding of the system. O'Neil admitted that he did not understand the electoral system prevailing in the United States.
To make his point, he brought up the 2016 election in which Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but still lost to Trump.
O'Neal recently partnered with former first lady Michelle Obama in an effort to encourage US citizens to get involved in a democratic party.
"It has never been more important to exercise your right to vote," O'Neal wrote on social media earlier this week.
