Reportedly Sick, Andy Murray Withdraws Cancels Appearance In The Round Of 16 Of The ATP Masters 1000 Against Novak Djokovic
JAKARTA - Andy Murray has withdrawn from his Madrid Open round of 16 match against world number one Novak Djokovic. According to tournament organizers, Murray is reportedly ill.
Three-time major champion Murray was due to meet Djokovic for the 37th time in the much-anticipated clay court match of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in the Spanish capital.
"Unfortunately, Andy Murray cannot be brought to the Manolo Santana Stadium due to illness," organizers wrote on Twitter.
"Instead, Andrey Rublev and Daniel Evans will open the match on main court today."
Former world number one Murray, who previously said he would spend the clay court season to keep himself fit, accepted a wildcard in Madrid and beat Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov in his first two matches.
