JAKARTA - Indonesian women's lifter Windy Cantika Aisah won a gold medal at the 2022 Junior Weightlifting World Championships in Crete, Greece, Tuesday 2 May.
Appearing in the 49 kg class, Windy won gold for three categories, namely the snatch, clean and jerk, and the total force.
In the snatch, the 19-year-old lifter posted a snatch of 83 kg, clean and jerk 102 kg and a total lift of 185 kg.
This record is no better than the results at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when Windy posted a total lift of 194 kg, with details of 84 kg snatch and 110 kg clean and jerk, and won bronze.
The silver medal for the women's 49 kg class was won by Indian lifter, Yadav Gyaneshwari with 73 kg snatch, 83 kg clean and Jerk, and a total lift of 156 kg.
The bronze medal was also won by Indian lifter, Rithika V, with a snatch force of 69 kg, clean and Jerk 81 kg, and a total force of 150 kg.
The success of Windy Cantika in winning the world title had been predicted by weightlifting coach Dirja Wihardja before leaving for Greece.
"In daily training, his total force can exceed that achieved in this world championship. However, I emphasize that he is not too insistent, because after this he will appear at the Vietnam SEA Games," said Dirdja in his written statement as quoted by Antara.
Meanwhile, another female lifter from Indonesia, Najla Khoirunnisa, who appeared in the 45 kg class, was ranked fourth with a snatch weight of 67 kg, clean and jerk 81 kg, and a total lift of 148 kg.
Even though she was ranked fourth, Najla Khoirunnisa was able to improve the record she made at the World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan 2021, with 64 kg snatch, 80 kg clean and Jerk and a total of 144 kg.
In addition to Windy Cantika Aisah and Najla Khoirunnisa, Indonesia will also field two other lifters in the 2022 Junior Weightlifting World Championship, namely Juliana Clarissa and Rizki Juniansyah, who will compete in the women's 45 kg and 55 kg respectively.
