Google Opens Free Digital Course Service Worth IDR 1.4 Billion

JAKARTA - Alphabet Inc's Google will provide more than $100.000 worth of online courses for businesses in the US. Courses are awarded in areas of data analysis, design, and other technology skills. This course is also intended for their workers for free.

The offer that appears Monday, May 2 marks a major expansion of Google Career Certificates, a program the company launched in 2018 to help people globally improve their resumes by learning new tools at their own pace.

According to Google, more than 70,000 people in the United States and 205.000 globally have earned at least one certificate, and 75% received benefits such as a new job or a higher salary within six months.

The courses, designed by Google and sold through online education service Coursera Inc, typically cost students about $39 per month each and take three to six months to complete.

Google will now cover the costs of up to 500 workers in any US business, and value a grant of $100.000 as people typically take up to six months to complete.

Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google, the company's unit that oversees certificates, said course completion rates were higher when people paid for themselves, but the new offering was still worthwhile if it could help some businesses gain digital understanding.

Certificates are also available in IT support, project management, e-commerce, and digital marketing. They cover popular software in every field, including Google's advertising services.
