Most Wanted Cheap Cell Phones Towards The End Of 2020

JAKARTA - The IDC research institute announced that low-end class phones, or cheap cellphones, were the most sought after in Indonesia in the second quarter of 2020. The need for cheap cellphones is much sought after as a means of learning from home.

In the second quarter report, IDC noted that post-quarter mobile phone shipments in Indonesia were the lowest on record since 2016. In total, cellphone shipments in Indonesia reached 7.1 million units, and dropped 26 percent year-on-year or 3 percent quarterly. -on-quarter .

IDC noted that there is a high demand for cell phones priced at 100 to 200 dollars, or around Rp1.5 million to Rp3 million, for school use from home. Demand for low-end class phones exceeded 75 percent, an increase of 48 percent over last year.

IDC noted that the top five most popular brands in Indonesia by shipment were Vivo, OPPO, Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme, respectively. IDC Indonesia notes, Vivo (26.8 percent) holds the largest market share in the low-end segment, through sales in unorganized retail which remains open during the PSBB policy.

While OPPO (21.2 percent), the brand is strong in the middle segment, with a price range of 200-400 dollars (IDR 3 million to IDR 5.8 million). The Samsung brand (18.7 percent) is strong with the M series, while Xiaomi (16.9 percent) excels in the ultra low-end class or under $ 100, less than IDR 1.5 million.

IDC noted realm shipments (14.2 percent) decreased in limited supply for two consecutive quarters. IDC predicts that the recovery of the smartphone market in Indonesia will be slow as the government tightens the PSBB again.
