Chris Paul Sets NBA Playoff Shooting Record: 14 Goals From 14 Open Attempts
JAKARTA - The aging Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul set an NBA playoff shooting record with 14 hits on target from 14 open attempts. The slick record occurred when Paul guided his team to beat the New Orleans Pelicans 115-109 in Game 6 of the first round of the Western Conference at Smoothie King Center, Louisiana, Thursday local.
Quoted from the official NBA website, Paul became the first player in history to shoot 13 or more attempted shots and not miss once in a playoff phase match.
In detail, of the 14 attempted shots fired throughout the game, only one of them was fired by Paul from outside the arc.
Paul also managed to take four of his four free-throw opportunities to score a total of 33 points with eight assists and five rebounds.
"This city raised me, man," Paul said after the game as quoted from the NBA's official website, Friday.
This season Paul has contributed an average of 14.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 10.8 assists (the highest in the NBA 2021-22), and 1.9 steals. He's also only been found to have lost 2.4 balls or made a turnover in 65 games with an open shot conversion rate of 49.3 percent and 31.7 percent from outside the arc.
Paul didn't just use Game 6 as his individual stage, as this result confirmed the Suns' move to the Western semifinals after winning a 4-2 draw over the Pelicans.
In the semifinals the Suns will meet the Dallas Mavericks who later also locked a 4-2 victory over the Utah Jazz.
The Suns will host the first two games of the Western semifinals at home to the Mavericks at the Footprint Center on Monday and Wednesday next week.
