There Is An Issue Of A Rival Medical Organization Due To Terawan's Dismissal, PB IDI Conducts Consolidation
Jakarta - All Medical Professional Organizations under the auspices of IDI call for their support to remain solid and united in the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI). This can be seen from various official letters as a form of statement of support sent to PB IDI. In the letter, the general chairmen of each medical professional organization stated that the medical professional organization they lead was an official medical professional organization under the auspices of PB IDI, and asked all members of the medical professional organization to remain solid. Currently there are more than 110 Professional and Seminary Organizations registered in MPPK and under the auspices of IDI.
General Chairperson of the Medical Services Development Council (MPPK), Ika Prasetya Wijaya, said that every medical professional organization registered in MPPK and IDI had agreed to remain solid and under the auspices of PB IDI.
“According to the decision of the Constitutional Court regarding health workers, it has been stated clearly that only one professional organization is needed for one type of health worker. In Indonesia itself, the organization in question is IDI," said Dr Ika Prasetya.
The Medical Practice Law explains that the only professional medical organization is the Indonesian Doctors Association. This is also confirmed by the 2017 Constitutional Court decision which stated that IDI is the only medical professional organization in Indonesia. This is because medical professional organizations are quite vital organizations because they involve physical health and life safety. The results of the trial also decided that a doctor was not only tested academically but also tested in the application of science.
To obtain a certificate of competence, a doctor must first have a professional certificate or diploma. The certificate of competence shows the recognition of the ability and readiness of a doctor to perform medical actions in independent practice that will be undertaken and is only given to those who have gone through various stages to become a professional doctor.
The General Chair of PB IDI, Adib Khumaidi, explained the difference between professional organizations and community organizations. According to Law No. 17/2013, mass organizations are formed by the community voluntarily based on common aspirations, desires, needs, and goals to participate in state development. While professional organizations have a single characteristic for one type of profession, their activities are limited by professionalism and ethics, and to make decisions in the organization there must be a joint meeting forum.
“For medical professional organizations, in accordance with the World Medical Association (WMA), they must be able to formulate ethical standards, formulate competencies, and fight for freedom of professional service. The estuary of all this is also felt by the community," said Dr. Adib.
Dr Adib emphasized that in order to provide protection to patients, improve the quality of services, and provide legal certainty to the community, the medical organization must be single. Service standards, ethics, competence, and service quality must emerge from a single professional organization. If there is more than one then there will be confusion of the given standard.
"If there are more than one medical organization, it will have the potential to create different standards, requirements, certification of expertise, and code of ethics and confuse medical professionals and the public who are service users."
