As Many As 48 Positive People With COVID-19 In Pekanbaru Women's Prison
JAKARTA - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Riau Province stated that a total of 48 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 at the Class IIA Class IIA Women's Prison in Pekanbaru, the majority of whom were inmates or convicts.
This was revealed after the Head of the Riau Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ibnu Chuldun, conducted a review at the Pekanbaru Women's Prison, Friday.
He said that in total there were 318 assisted residents and 63 prison employees who had undergone swab tests, both conducted by the Riau Provincial Health Office and independently by the Women's Prison.
As a result, as many as 44 people assisted by correctional facilities (WBP) and four prison officers were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
"All WBPs who were confirmed positive for COVID-19 have been separated and placed in isolation rooms. Likewise, prison officers who are positive have been ordered to carry out independent isolation at home. " said Ibn Chuldun in a press statement received by Antara in Pekanbaru, Friday, October 9.
Ibnu Chuldun reviewed these facilities to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in prisons / remand centers in the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office. She made a visit with the Head of the Corrections Division, Maulidi Hilal, and was accompanied by the Head of the Pekanbaru Women's Prison, Desi Andriyani.
Ibnu and Maulidi appeared to be using complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to avoid catching him from the COVID-19 outbreak. The review of the condition of the Pekanbaru Women's Prison starts from the kitchen service area, clinic room, residential block, and then the isolation room for COVID-19 positive prisoners.
During his visit, Ibnu gave enthusiasm and motivation to all officers and WBP to work together and cooperate in preventing the spread of the Corona Virus in Pekanbaru Women's Prison. Ibnu appealed to always maintain personal health and be disciplined in implementing health protocols for prevention and control of COVID-19.
"Let's discipline to apply the 5M Movement, namely using masks, washing hands with soap, maintaining distance and not crowding, maintaining personal immunity, and praying to avoid all diseases," said Ibnu Chuldun.
Furthermore, Ibnu ordered the Head of the Pekanbaru Women's Prison to always coordinate and communicate with related agencies to tackle COVID-19, namely the Sapta Taruna Health Center and the Riau Province Health Service.
In addition, the Regional Head of Regional Office also invited all officers and WBP not to panic and be patient in facing this outbreak in order to maintain the conduciveness of Pekanbaru Women's Prison to remain safe, orderly and under control.
