JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy ensured that travelers remain safe crossing around Mount Anak Krakatau, which is currently on Alert status.
After conducting an aerial inspection, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir conveyed that the condition of Mount Anak Krakatau is still conducive. Muhadjir emphasized that the issue of Mount Anak Krakatau which was in serious condition was not true.
"As long as there is direct observation near Mount Anak Krakatau, it has been confirmed that the condition is safe, God willing. Therefore, if there are rumors that Anak Krakatau is in serious condition, it is not true," Muhadjir said in a written statement quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 28.
Muhadjir said that until now the conditions around Mount Anak Krakatau are still safe for transportation to cross, but do not approach the area of Mount Anak Krakatau at least within a 5 kilometer radius.
"Therefore, those who will cross in the context of this homecoming, God willing, while praying, hopefully there will be no crossroads caused by the activities of Anak Krakatau," he said.
He conveyed that based on scientific evidence from the study of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), it was proven safe.
"Of course we can't be sure of what happened outside of that. What's important is that if we look at it with the naked eye and based on scientific evidence, it's still safe," he said.
Approaching Eid 1443 Hijri, the status of Mount Anak Krakatau has increased to Level 3 or Alert from Level 2 or Alert.
The increase in the status of Mount Anak Krakatau to standby was taken because of the volcanic activity of the mountain and until now it is still in the period of eruption and avalanche / avalanche.
In the context of Hazard Assessment (Identification of Hazards), Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, together with the Head of BNPB Suharyanto, Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati and Head of PVMBG Hendra Gunawan conducted a joint inspection to Gunung Anak Krakatau Island by air, on Thursday (28/4).
Hazard identification is carried out in a joint inspection by looking at the primary and secondary hazards on Gunung Anak Krakatau Island.
Based on seismic observations, PVMBG and BMKG, Mount Anak Krakatau has experienced one gust earthquake with an amplitude of 12 mm and an earthquake duration of 17 seconds, 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-10 mm, dominant 3 mm.
In general, volcanic activities such as earthquakes, eruptions and avalanches/slides since Monday 25 April 2022 tend to be sloping.
However, in the Standby status position (Level 3) there is still the possibility of a sudden increase in volcanic activity. The public is also advised not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau within a 5 kilometer radius.
