NasDem: PSDI Is Not A Threat, But IDI Should Be Evaluated
JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives from the NasDem faction, Irma Suryani Chaniago, highlighted the formation of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PDSI) which was declared on Wednesday, April 27.
According to him, the formation of PDSI is not a threat to other doctors' organizations. Irma considered that it is legal if there is more than one professional organization.
Irma also encouraged the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly to provide a legal umbrella with the birth of PDSI. Menkum HAM was asked to accommodate the revision of Law Number 36 of 2014 concerning Health Workers which stated that health workers may only establish one professional organization.
"I don't think PDSI is a threat. In a democratic country, like Indonesia, there may be more than one professional organization," Irma told reporters, Thursday, April 28.
Irma then questioned the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which stated that there was a single medical organization, namely the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).
"If the Constitutional Court stipulates only one, it means that the Constitutional Court is not correct? What is wrong with the Constitutional Court? There are more than one advocate, journalists, trade unions, labor unions, even Kadin," said Irma.
It is known that the Constitutional Court rejected a lawsuit filed by a number of doctors regarding the monopoly on the issuance of medical professional certification by IDI. This decision confirms that IDI is the only legal professional organization in Indonesia.
"The Constitutional Court must refer to professional organizations such as journalists and advocates. Not others can do it, but others can't," added Irma.
Precisely with the existence of PDSI, Irma assesses the need for an evaluation of IDI. "IDI must be evaluated and reformed to be wiser and more beneficial for its members," said Irma.
He also suggested that IDI should have a supervisory board. Because according to him, IDI is a scourge for its members.
"Actually, if IDI is able to become a transparent organization, not a superbody and not a scourge for its members, of course something like this will not happen," said Irma.
"I still suggest that IDI has a supervisory board, administrators, operators as well as regulators. The danger is that oranges eat oranges," he added.
Previously, Member of Commission IX of the DPR from the PAN faction, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, highlighted the conditions for PDSI membership which must not be dualism with similar organizations, which are none other than IDI. According to him, it will be a threat to IDI.
"The issue of PDSI members having to leave similar professional organizations. In my opinion, this is a threat to IDI. Because PDSI really wants to take another path and front itself," he concluded.
