Microsoft Game Boss Will Bring Xbox Game Pass To Apple Devices In 2021

JAKARTA - Microsoft game boss Phil Spencer is reportedly bringing the browser-based Xbox Game Pass to Apple devices soon. This Game Pass will arrive on iPhones and iPads as early as 2021.

"We're really coming to iOS," said Spencer, as quoted by Business Insider, Friday, October 9.

Game Pass Xbox itself is a game streaming service like Google Stadia. On the other hand, Apple has not commented on Microsoft's plans to bring dozens of games to iOS devices.

Indeed, Microsoft has embedded a new feature into Game Pass, so that its subscription service will be as easily accessible as using Netflix. Where Xbox and PC gamers can access the game catalog freely.

"We have no other route to bring our vision of cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to gamers on iOS via the Apple App Store," said a Microsoft spokesman.

Microsoft is bold enough to bring the Xbox Game Pass platform through a browser service. The reason is, Apple is indeed reviewing the Google Stadia game streaming service available on the App Store.

Where the cupertino giant indicates that Game Pass or Stadia will be allowed to offer game streaming services, only if each title in the catalog is available on its separate app. Apple itself is not without a gaming platform, since the last few years they have developed Apple Arcade services for iOS users.

It's just that Apple's game service is less desirable and can't compete with other game streaming platforms. The antitrust committee is also investigating Apple's perceived potential anti-competitive practices with other technology companies.
