Mamas In Sugapa Intan Jaya Papua Hit By Shrapnel From Shooting During Clashes Between Residents In Village Fund Distribution
JAYAPURA - Intan Jaya Police Chief, AKBP Sandi Sultan said his party received reports regarding civilians being hit by shrapnel or bullets from a gunshot in Sugapa, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.
"Indeed, there have been reports of a woman (a term for a mother in Papua, ed) who was injured and is currently being investigated," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 27.
Based on the examination of the victim's body, no bullet projectiles were found, so it is estimated that the victim was hit by shrapnel or bullet mentality.
AKBP Sandi said that this incident began when village funds were distributed by BPD Papua officials at the market in the Sugapa area, there was a commotion between two groups of residents due to the immoral actions of the residents.
The group of victims demanded the payment of compensation using the funds so that the police detained the two people who had problems, both the victim and the perpetrator. They were taken to the local police station to be resolved.
Arriving at the police station, the two groups quarreled again and threw stones at each other, even causing the police to be injured. "That's why members then fired warning shots into the air to break up the dispute," explained the Sultan.
He stated that the whereabouts of the injured residents were known after a Papuan BPD officer reported that a woman was injured in her right buttocks.
"It is suspected that the victim was hit by a recoset shot that was fired when dissolving the dispute between the two groups, but to make sure it is still being investigated, considering the distance between the Polsek office and the market is about one kilometer," he said.
