Demonstration Ends In Chaos, 34 Public Facilities In Jakarta Are Damaged By Rioters
JAKARTA - The police recorded 34 public facilities that were damaged by rioters during a demonstration against the ratification of the Job Creation Law. Dozens of facilities damaged include police posts and Transjakarta bus stops.
"So the total facilities of the police that were carried out by the rioters to destroy and burn a total of 18 pam post facilities," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Friday, October 9.
Of the 18 police posts that were damaged, 9 of them were burnt and the rest suffered severe damage such as broken glass. Several posts that were targeted for vandalism included the Harmoni police post, the Sarinah police post, the Southwest Monas police post, the Atmajaya police post including the Tugu Tani police post.
It was confirmed that the perpetrators of the vandalism were not the masses of workers and students. But the rioters who intended to make a scene.
"There are figures who intend to riot by burning public facilities and police facilities," said Yusri.
Meanwhile, 16 bus stops were damaged. In fact, it was noted that rioters also paid for cinemas and public vehicles.
"There are several other facilities, including the Senen (Cinema) and also several vehicles that have been damaged by these rioters," he said.
Because of that, the investigation team is currently gathering evidence to catch the perpetrators of the vandalism. So that, later they will be charged with criminal articles.
"We depart from several testimonies of witnesses who we ask for information to investigate it. Along with there are several CCTVs that we use as evidence to serve as clues," said Yusri.
