KAI And MRT Create Joint Venture Companies

JAKARTA - The joint venture between PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and PT MRT Jakarta has finally been realized. BUMN Minister Erick Thohir said that the agreement to form the joint venture was a follow-up to President Jokowi's direction regarding the management of an integrated transportation mode system.

"The directive can be realized today by signing a cooperation agreement between KAI and PT MRT Jakarta Perseroda," he said in Jakarta, Friday, January 10.

Located at the Office of the Ministry of BUMN RI, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) signed a "Shareholder Agreement between PT MRT Jakarta Perseroda and PT Kereta Api Indonesia Persero".

The signing was carried out directly by the Head of DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo, President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William P. Sabandar, and President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia Edi Sukmoro, witnessed by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and Provincial Governor DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan.

A joint venture company called PT Moda Integrasi Transport Jabodetabek will manage and organize 72 stations, including airport trains and commuterline trains.

At the same time, a "Shareholder Agreement" was also signed between PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) which was carried out directly by the main directors of the two companies.

This agreement is also a follow-up to the Head of Agreement between the two parties which regulates the agreement to form a joint venture company that will study and implement transportation integration and development of transit-oriented areas in Jabodetabek.

"This joint venture will act to manage integrated railway transportation and transit-oriented areas in the Jabodetabek area," said PT MRT Jakarta President Director William P Sabandar.
